International Firefighters' Day is observed each year on May 4th to remember past firefighters who have died and to show support and appreciation to firefighters who continue to serve their communities. This year, the Mississippi Mills Fire Department wants to recognize our firefighters for the time they have dedicated to intensive training throughout the past year in order to meet international standards. This training is in addition to all emergency calls, meetings and community events that our firefighters attend. May 4th is a day to recognize our firefighters and their families and thank them for their dedication, sacrifice and continued support.

Background: International Firefighters' Day is observed around the world due to the death of 5 firefighters in 1998 while fighting a wildfire in Australia. For more information visit: www.firefightersday.org
